Dear Bureau of Immigration Poster

I was walking at the corridor of my school when I noticed something posted in front of PEN-lab (laboratory exclusive for the Deaf). It says there, ‘Dear Bureau of Immigration’. I know outdated na naman ako sa nangyayari sa Pilipinas (schoolworks, that’s expected). Buti na lang mahilig akong maglilingon sa mga nakapost sa dingding ng mga dinadaanan ko.

Of course, I’m zero-knowledge with what had happened. Kaya nagugulat ako sa mga nakasulat. But with what was written, I know something injustice happened if not them, maybe their fellow deaf.

Some are the following:

Equal rights for the Deaf!

Human rights for the Deaf!

Confirmed: This is another form of discrimination to differently-abled people. Much worse, another government agent is making this shameful act. Hindi ba kayo nahihiya? You are supposed to serve Filipino men pero kayo pa ang pasimuno ng kabuktutan ng bansang ‘to.

some of the opinions of the CSB deaf students

To some na hindi pa nakakaalam (or ako na lang ang hindi pa nakakaalam?), a deaf person named Franklin Corpuz was supposed to leave for Qatar after he was invited to train as chef in the said country. But while in Ninoy Aquino International Airport, he was held by an Immigration officer then eventually not allowed him to take aboard.

I don’t know what’s with deaf person para hindi payagang umalis. Ito natutunan ko sa Political Governance class ko. Article 3 section 6: Liberty of abode and travel. Lahat may karapatang umalis ng bansa basta dumadaan sa maayos at legal na proseso. That’s why I don’t understand why that stupid Immigrant Officer delayed his flight.

I remember part of what I have read, writing yung mode of communication nila. Kahit ganun, nahirapan pa rin silang magkaintindihan. Kahit ako I’ve experienced that. Here at school, there are deaf too. They are not so different to us although I’m having hard time talking with them. I realized iba yung translation ng sign language into English language, it’s not so fluent! So malabo talagang magkaintindihan sila through writing lalo na kung makitid utak ng nagbabasa.

Communication barrier man ang reason kung bakit hindi sila nagkaunawaan which eventually held him from his flight, konsensya rin naman kung alam mong nadediscriminate na yung tao. Sino ba nagsabing bawal umalis ang mga differently-abled people? Bakit Diyos ka ba?

I just felt how these people are hurt because of this kind of circumstances. Kaya I’m so affected with this scandal.
